We’re back! There are pictures in the gallery of our vacation. We’ve also added some pictures from Dan and Karyn’s wedding to the site.
While we were in CO, we went to a really great place called the “Friday Afternoon Club” at the Eagle’s Nest on Vail Mountain. Basically, it’s a casual club, outdoor atmosphere with a band playing at 10,000 feet. The only way to get there is to take a nice steep gondola ride to the top. We saw one of our favourite bands (Hello Dave) at this place. It rained for a little while we were there, giving me the unique oppurtunity to dance barefoot in the rain to Hello Dave while on top of a mountain. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun and number of other current and former Michiganders enjoyed getting slightly drunk that afternoon. It seems it’s a -lot- easier to get drunk at 10,000 feet.
The drive sucked. We’ve both determined that Nebraska is an evil state filled with people who are obsessed about living on the Iowa border. There is NOTHING there. 5 hours of NOTHING. We’ve added just over 2500 miles to the odometer this trip and I say the trip was a blazing success despite Nebraska sucking the big one.
We’re headin’ out today to take Clare over to her grand-folks. We’re coming back momentarily Sunday evening to get some sleep before heading out to sunny, hot, Colorado. There won’t be entries for a week or so.
So, before I sign off for a bit, here’s something from a track that’s been stuck in my head lately. It’s from Black Eyed Peas. The track is called “Where Is The Love?”.
“What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
Nigga, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all, y’all”
Hello all. Me again. It’s Friday. We leave for vacation in Colorado on Monday morning, but not before driving across the state and back to leave Clare with the grandparents (to which we are definitely grateful). It should be interesting. AAA says 17 hours and 40 minutes or somesuch nonsense from GR to where our friend, Beeko, lives. That’ll be Aurora, CO, just outside of Denver.
We’re hoping to see Hello Dave while we’re out there. They are playing two nights at a couple of different places around the Denver area. Check the photo gallery sometime around the 21st for pictures of our trip.
We survived the weekend! We walked on down to East GR for some firework action on Sunday. Clare was awestruck, to say the least. The show wasn’t bad, and it was close to home, which is a bonus.
I have 4 long hard days at the grindstone before my long-awaited vacation begins! We’re heading out to Colorado to see some friends and relax for a week or so. When we return, there should be some pictures in the gallery.
Tomorrow is Independance Day here in these United States. I hope that everyone reading this who has a right to vote (all of yous over 18) take this as a reminder to get out this November and take our country back. Independance Day should be a time to remember the principals that our country was founded upon and to reject the current administration’s war on our freedoms and this so-called war overseas. Please also remember those who have fallen in Iraq and elsewhere battling for this president’s and his friends’ personal financial futures under the guise of a “war on terror”.
Support our troops; bring them home.
We’ll impeach a president for lying about getting head in the oval office, but we’ll congratulate a president for telling a lie that has led to the deaths of hundreds of our young people fighting so that Haliburton’s bottom line looks good this quarter. Pull that handle for anything but the status quo, people. Something’s gotta give.
