Fly By

So, it’s already Thursday and I haven’t accomplished anything this week of any greatness at all. Monday morning Clare and I got up to head to Playworld (It’s kinda a cross between Chuck E Cheese & McDonald’s Playlands with things to climb up in, a big inflatable slide, bunches of houses to play in and what not) to meet some of our MOMS Club friends. She played with her bud Andy for most of the morning in the ball pits and mazes. Those two have been together since they were 7 months old….so they have known each other most of their lives, which is kinda neat in retrospect. Even though they have moved to the other side of town, and he’s in preschool 2 days a week we still manage to get the kids together for some play time through our MOMS Club activities. I just think it’s neat that they will have been able to say they’ve known each other since they were babies….when most of us don’t have that. Hopefully we’ll be able to maintain regular playgroups through the school years. I think it’ll happen, as his mom Donna and I are pretty good friends.

On Tuesday we went to the YMCA for my weekly yoga class, and Clare played in the childcare. After lunch, and what not we went for a long walk with Moonshadow in the beautiful 70 weather. We ended up at the school playground over at Campus Elementary. If all goes as planned, that’s where Clare will go to school for Elementary. Brad wants to try the public schools out….I keep hearing horror stories about the schools here…but then again, who knows what they’ll be like in 2 years with the new superintendant they are electing in this Fall. Then we had dinner, and after Clare went to bed Brad and I watched “Walk the Line”. It was really good, and I had no idea Reese Witherspoon could act so well!

Wednesday morning it was back to the YMCA again for Clare to do Tumble Bugs (it’s kinda gymnastics-like). She loves it, and it has really improved upon her coordination and self esteem in wanting to do more challenging things. I think that she’ll either do it again next session, or she has shown some interest in their Sports Sampler Class. It works out really well, Clare goes to her 45 minute class while I go do 30 minutes or so of cardio. Usually on Thursday’s she goes into child care & a Jump Start Class (it’s music & movement/dance class) while I go do 45 minutes of Yoga/Pilates….but today we were a little slow on the get go. So, instead I’ll just go do some cardio while she’s in with Miss Linda’s Dance Class. But yesterday for the first time I got my mile in under 13 minutes….12:50 to be exact on the Cross Ramp Eliptical! I’m getting there…..slowly but surely, and all that I need now is to STOP the junk from coming into my house. Everytime I feel like I get it under control a holiday comes up and I end up with candy, cookies, and chocolate in my candy dish. We as American’s have a serious problem with indulgence. If I had to go get the treat from the store I’d be less likely to get it….because I hate going to the store. But since they are in the hosue, I sit on the couch and eat them! I hate struggling with weight….it’s such a hard thing to accomplish, especially with little will power. It’s just something I need to work on, and I’m having a really hard time getting motivated. Usually Spring hits, and we are out walking and what not….for some reason this year I’m having a hard time with it. Don’t know if it’s the crazy weather patterns we’ve had, or what….but my healthy habits of last year are not present and it’s really kinda bugging me. I’m really excited though, because for the first time in I don’t know how long this will be 3 days in a row at the YMCA getting some excersize. Well….it’s time to head out!

Updates

I’ve some updating to the site. Check out the VW page, the new fortune page, and some recent adjustments to the about page. Char has also posted an entry on her blog. At some point, the front page should also change, but don’t get too worried if it looks the same for a while. Only one more page to finish updating and I can call this little changeover complete (for now). We’re starting to get a few entries in the guestbook, which is groovy. I’m glad to have that feature back (and spam-free so far).

Well… it’s late and time for bed. No work on the car yet. Other things keep getting in the way (mostly work). Hopefully I’ll be getting to it by the end of the week. At least it’s nice enough to ride the bike.

Weekend Bliss

So, this past weekend was absolutely great! It all started with my traveling to Port Huron on Thursday afternoon to drop Clare off with the grandparents for the whole weekend. I came home to Brad wanting to make an ice cream run….which I can always do!

Friday I had the whole day to myself…..I haven’t had one of those days in forever. Probably not since I was in college, and then I so did not appreciate that time. I sat around on the computer uninterrupted, got a shower, painted my toe nails, and then decided to go to the movies by myself. People always make such a huge deal out of doing it, but I love it. I can lounge all over, and not worry about it. I had popcorn for lunch! I went to go see “Failure to Launch”, which by the way was very good. I came home to my dog, Moonshadow….she is such a good dog when Clare’s not around to egg her on. We played in the living room for a bit, and then Brad came home. Then came the most aweful decision of what to do for dinner?!?! We decided to go to Mongolian BBQ, as they have alcohol and good food.

Saturday was super nice out. We went to the brand new Omelette Shoppe here in Breton Village Mall, and it was so yummy. I am still thinking about the Alaskan scramble I had! Shrimp, Krab, and cream cheese with dill all scrambled up in some eggs. Doesn’t sound too good, but it was. Then we wandered the tiny thing they call the mall there, to run into one of Brad’s co-workers. It was kinda funny, he was introduced to this guys daugher as his boss. I never think about Brad being someone’s boss, so it kinda made me chuckle in my head. Then we came home to get our Costco list, and headed out to do some grocery shopping. We came home and I cleaned house in preparation for our night out with the Geeks to see Domestic Problems. I made some phone calls to only find out that they were all drunk already, and were gonna take a cab there instead of coming to my house to eat the huge pizza’s I bought thinking they were coming here. I was so mad! Not that I spent $8 on pizza nobody was gonna eat, but that I bought it….and it was taking up large amounts of my fridge because they are huge! So, I gave it to my parents for bring Clare back to us on Sunday. We did end up having 2 of our friends come over, but that was because they wanted to escape the retardness that was happening at their place with the drunk geeks. So, we had a few drinks with them in order to be budget savy on our bar tab. Thanks for coming over and hanging Steph & Brandon! So, we left here about 9pm and headed up to Billy’s to go see Domestic Problems. There was a line, and the bar was over capacity. So, we waited in line in hopes of getting in. A bunch of people left the line, and soon I was at the front of the line. We got in just in time to see them take the stage. Brad was nice enough to let me go in without him, but he was shortly in too. The night was absolutely CRAZY!

About 11 or so on Sunday I went upstairs, and was just about to get in the shower when my parents showed up with Clare. They stayed for about half an hour, and then took off as they had to get back for my dad’s Fire Dept. Awards Ceremony. Clare got a baseball set for Easter from them, so she had to play baseball as soon as they left. I got her to watch a movie while I got a shower, and then we went outside. It was so nice out, and it’s supposed to be that way all week! YEAH, I think warm is finally here to stay for a few months. We played baseball for a little bit, and then she was onto her sand box. So, I cleaned up the backyard by raking all the dead grass and leaves up. By the time it was all said and done it was almost dinner time.

All in all it was a great weekend, and I would have to say even though I am extremely tired from all the activity, I feel like a new person from being so busy after our winter of being hermits. Of course, that could be from getting some alone time too!

More on the veedub

I talked with Curt from Autosports Unlimited this morning. As has been my experience with the whole staff there, Curt was extremely helpful and willing to answer all my questions about what I am seeing. His quick over-the-phone diagnosis was that most probably there has been mixing of orange and green type anti-freezes and that’s why I’m seeing the “muck” that I am. I’m going to flush the whole system and see if I can get most of it out. He said that there isn’t really a way for tranny fluid to make it into the coolant, but gave me a way to check the level of the tranny fluid to be sure.

Curt also gave me some great info on how the adaptive tranny works. It looks like the shifting pattern is set once you hit 25 key-on/key-offs (which I haven’t) and it is adjusted to your driving style. He said it is likely that the person who had the car before me wasn’t a very aggressive driver and that’s why the shift pattern was so shallow. He also said that resetting the computer is as simple as disconnecting the battery (postive and negative) and hooking the two leads together to drain the capacitors. He said leave it this way for 24 hours or so and the whole system will reset.

So… I’ll be grabbing a flush kit for the car after work today. I guess I need to get some of the orange antifreeze as VW doesn’t recommend the green stuff. I’ll write more as time allows.

back to the grind…

dP last night, VW today

It was an interesting day. I snapped some pictures of the the VW in its current state. They are in the gallery. I haven’t finished putting descriptions on everything, but you’ll notice that things don’t look quite right. I talked with my dad today and he suggested giving the cooling system a flush. I will be giving this a shot tomorrow along with calling the folks who did the tranny rebuild to ask if they’ve run into anything like this. The shit in the coolant doesn’t appear to be motor oil. I’m wondering if it’s tranny fluid.

Last night, we went to Billy’s to see Domestic Problems. It was a GREAT show (even better because I was mostly sober and had a good time watching our friends make complete idiots out of themselves). Char and I are on a budget so that we can get the struts on the Audi replaced, so we didn’t spend much at the bar last night. No big deal… my liver probably needs a rest anyway. hehe.

Well… I’m outta here. I’ll post again regarding progress on the car. Stay tuned…

Rock on!

Some serious Rock-n-Roll

The child is at her grandparents. It’s Friday. It’s payday. Tomorrow Domestic Problems will be tearing up the stage at our neighborhood bar, Billy’s. We will be there with a number of our friends enjoying Andy & Co’s musical goodness. Oh, yes. The spoils of the almighty yeast will be flowing in abundance. I’m expecting to be in some pain on Sunday.

Tonight, we are probably going to head out and do some shopping. Going without the kid means we’ll be able to get some things done in relative peace. Might as well take the opportunity. It is also my plan to try to get to dealing with the car this weekend. I now have everything I need to get the job done. It’s just taking the time to do it. Hopefully I’ll remember to snap some pics while I’m at it.

I’ve been riding the bike pretty much every day. I’ve gotten wet a few times, but the nice thing is that the humidity at work is so low that I’m generally dry within 20 minutes of getting there… not too bad.

Well… break’s over… back to the grind…

eastowners site up!

Tonight, I decided to damn it all and introduce the new site. I’ll work on finishing it up over the next couple of weeks. Sign the guestbook and let us know what you think of the new site! Look for pictures of the VW’s coolant malady and other things later in the week.

yippee!

So my co-worker lent me his air compressor (thanks Steve!) and I rode the bike to work for the first time since December. This makes me happy. The bike is running well (for the moment). The can of Sea Foam split between the gas tank and the crankcase seems to have helped it through the winter. The battery was still fine and it started right up. I took it around the block last night and rode in the rain to work this morning.

Now for the veedub. Tomorrow morning I will be on a quest to find a device into which I can drain the coolant. Why, you ask? Well… the coolant in the multi-colored wonder is a wonderful shade of off-tan (indicating the STRONG possiblility that a massive amount of oil has found it’s way into my cooling system). Thankfully, the oil is not the same color.

I’ve been doing some more work on the new eastowners site. I found an acceptable guestbook application and have been collecting musical things to put on the music page. Expect some new pictures of the veedub (in disrepair) coming soon.
