Wow… I was getting soooo good at posting regularly and here I am… around two weeks without a post! Eeeks. I think even Char’s better at keeping her blog updated. Well… that’s all nice and good. Lots of things going on. Matt was up twice in the last few weeks to work out some of the details of our new project. We’re still throwing around names for the project, but needless to say, a lot of tune ideas are starting to flow. Now he’s all hooked up in the 21st and half century with some google talk action, so expect some postings to staggercat.com in the coming weeks.
On Friday, I stopped by my usual watering hole for a little post-stress stress relief. I had my current “usual”… Jameson 12yr and Coke, a fine drink. One of the resident bourbon snobs was at the end of the bar, a guy I actually respect, and suggested that I stop consuming the ubiquitous Jameson and try something a little more off-the-beaten-path. Tullamore Dew 12yr? Nope. Bushmills Black? Nope again. Something I hadn’t heard of… Redbreast. The barkeep gave me a nice tall pour… on the house.
So on Saturday, I bought a bottle. It’s a potstill… a single barrel (that’s “unblended” to you bourbon folks) Irish whisky. It’s triple distilled (most non-Irish whiskies are distilled once or twice), twelve years old and damn… is it good. I’m finding more and more that Irish whisky is really my beverage of preference for a little r&r… it’s funny, because I don’t really like scotch (which uses peat to get it’s flavor) or bourbon (which is made primarily from corn mash and can be pretty foul unless done right). I think part of the thing with Irish whisky is that it’s an amazingly complex liquor, much like Scotch is, without the taste of a peat bog in your mouth.
Well… enough about that. It’s time to go hang out with Char before we hit the sack. cya’ll l8r.
