My pal Big Binder has been holding MUCHO contests these past few weeks in her giant effort to get her friends and readers to eat local. Over at 5 Minutes for Mom they are giving away one of the limited edition Pink Dyson Vacuum’s. Dyson has also graciously offered to donate the entire retail price to Breast Cancer Research…a fountation near and dear to me especially since I’ve had 2 family members that have had Breast Cancer. This is my dream vacuum…..I only wish that we had more carpet to justify buying one, however if I win it…I think I’ll keep it. So, if it’s your dream vacuum too head on over and comment to win!
So, apprently September is the month in which the Locavore’s around the world try to promote eating locally. What is a Locavore you ask? It is someone that eats things from within 100 miles of their home. Why eat local…..well, it helps keep the dollars you would normally spend on something from over 1500 miles away (yes, most of our food comes from that far away to our plates) in your local area. There are tons of info on this way of thinking, but most of my info has come from 2 places…..my pal Big Binder and a website that is supporting the Eat Local Challenge in our area: Local First. There are tons of info on the Eat Local Challenge in both of these places. I personally perfer Big Binder, because she sifts through all the info for me! Thanks Big Binder :) She has several posts on the topic, including how to get started. The challenge is supposed to be for 2 weeks, however I think we’ll be lucky to pull together 1 meal in the Eastowner house. It’ll be particularly challenging because we are demi-vegetarian (the only type of meat we eat is fish/shrimp). This weekend I will be making my meal, and then asking someone else to take the challenge! So if you are a reader and would like to be tagged feel free to comment. If not I will be eenie meanie miney moing it!

That’s right, it’s not a typo! After reading my pal The Diaper Diaries recent post I saw that on over at I Should Be Folding Laundry she is giving away a free pair of Ryka running shoes. I am trying this out…..I have recently started reading all of my Mom Friend’s blogs, and they have discovered some super neat things on the web. THe Diaper Diaries always finds these neat contests through another site called 5 Minutes for Mom. Today’s contest is for $300 in dairy from Horizon Organics. We absolutely love organic products around our house and try to buy them when we can. I only buy organic milk, and I hope that Clare will thank me for it later in life. They say living on organics alone can’t produce a healthy child……well, if you look at pics of our daughter you will see she’s built like a frickin’ rock!
