Tackle it Tuesday

Current Mood:Tired or Sleepy emoticon Tired or Sleepy

laundrySince we tackled one of our major projects this past weekend (you can read the post on that here) other stuff went by the wayside.  Yesterday I ended up doing some blogging, e-mailing, touch-up painting, started working on the trim in Clare’s new room, and took care of Clare as she stayed home sick with a cold.  She slept in until 10am yesterday, so I knew she wasn’t feeling well.

Even though it sounds like I’ve been tackling a lot the list has only begun, today it’s onto the piled up laundry that has piled up while we did other stufftackle it tuesday this weekend.  Why is it that things seem to never end around here.  As soon as I have every piece of laundry done, there’s always more.  I suppose that’s what happens when you like to be clean and fresh.  While the laundry is doing it’s thing I’ll also be working on the trim again.  I am hoping to have things tidied up in the paint arena by Thursday the latest so I can start hauling furniture and going through the toys.  We’ll see though, knowing my luck next Tuesday I’ll still be tackling it - knock on wood though that I won’t!

tackle it tuesday Today I’m not really tackling housework.  I did a lot of that this weekend, as I finally had the motivation to clean the house from top to bottom, including the disgusting upstairs bathroom.  We’re the only ones that use it, as most guests use the downstairs bathroom, so I have a tendancy to just ignore it until I can’t handle it any more.  I also tackled some of the laundry this weekend.

So, you’re probably wondering what I’m tackling today then.  Well, it’s my birthday today so I am tackling ME!  I have taken the time this morning to enjoy some news (I know it doesn’t sound too exciting, but you don’t understand I rarely get to watch the news any more), share an orange with Clare, and now I’m off to have a peaceful shower.  This afternoon I have a few errands to run, but for the most part I will be at home relaxing doing what I enjoy the most - pure silence.  Brad has offeredParty Hat! to cook dinner for me tonight, so I forsee an enjoyable evening of martini’s and dinner.

tackle it tuesdayLet’s see….what am I not tackling today!  It’s one of those days in the Eastowner house that just doesn’t have enough hours in the day.  So far this morning I’ve tackled the sleepless Clare by argueing her back to bed at 5:30am, because she wanted to sleep with us.  We have NEVER allowed her to sleep with us in the middle of the night.  If it’s between the hours of 7pm and 7am then she is to be in her room….but somehow she has this idea that she needs to sleep with us.  I feel like I’m back to basics with a toddler sometimes when in reality she’s 5, and knows the rules.  I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got up at a very unlikable hour of 6am, showered, started laundry - folded 2 loads, took Brad to work, and have already run 2 loads of laundry and it’s only 10am!  Dinner is simmering in the crock pot, and in a few moments we will be out the door to have my car looked at.  I don’t know if you remember last Spring when some crazy, non-paying attention woman ran into my car in a snow storm while I was on my way to take Clare to Preschool.  Well I had to have the rear panel and door redone on my car.  Now suddenly the door isn’t ligning up and even though it’s shut as hard as my body can slam it shut….the car still thinks it’s open.  So I’ll be driving down the road and all of a sudden the dome light will come on.  I’m worried that one day I’m going to forget to put my foot against the door when I push my key fob, and I’ll come out to a dead battery.  I’ll be sure to let you know the outcome of that.  Let’s see…oh yes, so Clare has school, then after school it’s onto pick up Brad, scarf dinner, and go to my Market Training for my new in-home party business.  I’m kind of excited to go, as I think it’ll help me get motivated to get more parties booked.  I’m just hoping that it doesn’t get the feeling of “just one more thing to do today” from me before I have a mental breakdown because something else gets added to my plate unexpectedly.  What are you tackling today?  To see what others are doing head on over to 5 Minutes For Mom and check it out!

An unreal chore

cds.jpgSo I’ve been re-cataloging and re-ripping my CD collection to FLAC as I talked about in a previous post. It’s really turned into quite a chore; with three machines setup to rip CD’s. I’m now getting about 10-15 CD’s an hour ripped, which means that at something like 1000 CD’s to rip, it’ll be done sometime in June.

Looking at the stacks remaining is a little disheartening; especially considering I have about 120 CD’s that I haven’t even put into my database yet because they don’t have barcodes and initial searches didn’t turn anything up. A lot of them are local bands and obscure stuff that will probably have to be entered manually.

The good side-effect of this is that all our music will be tagged properly, have album covers, and will be easy to use in a media-center type application that I have running on the PC hooked up to the TV.

I’ve also had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the music collection and I suspect that I will be posting a great deal more album reviews. Look for them under the naming scheme “BCAR: <Arist Name>”. I’m going to change the headlines of the one’s I’ve already done to that for consistency.

Look for the jello and pudding shot recipes from NYE 07 later tonight or tomorrow if you’re interested.

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

It’s Tuesday again in the Eastowner’s House, meaning it’s time for me to take on the wonderful world of house work.  Since I’ve been doing this regularly now for almost a month it feels like Tuesday comes way too soon!  Why can’t I laze around the house some more, especially in this unusual muggy heat we are having in MI in September….where are my cool crisp Fall days?!?!?

Anyway, the tackle this week is more of the same…laundry to the ceiling of the basement that needs to be done, and the pile at the end of the table needs to be tidied up.  I went through the stack sorting out my usual piles of recycling, shredding, and stuff that needs attention this morning while I ate breakfast.  I swear every night we dine with paper stacks at the end of our table….it never goes away, especially right now while my desk is in storage as we are still working on the upstairs projects.  I THINK we finally got someone to fix our roof though…that wasn’t as easy as we thought it might be.  Apparently you have to call a contractor, to have them tell you to call a roofer, to have them tell you to call a chimney person.  Brad thinks he may have it in the bag now, and with any luck it’ll be fixed next week!

Oh, back to the tackling…so I have some laundry to do today, pay the bills, and then figure out how much money we have left for groceries and the week.  Sounds like loads of fun doesn’t it?  What are you tackling this Tuesday?  To find others tackling houswork check out 5 Minutes for Mom

Tackle it

It’s Tuesday again…..time for some tackling!  However, unfortunately I won’t be able to get much done today as we have a busy schedule of playgroup this AM followed by school.  Instead of trying to squeeze a good tackle in that little amount of time, I am going to tell you what I tackled this weekend.  Drum Roll Please…….Because the weather was so spectacular on Saturday, and because it was in much need of being done (especially since I think the last time I think I did it was sometime in July) I took a few hours to…..shave my legs.  (EWE, No……Gross)  Seriously though, I mowed the lawn.  Brad was able to sucessfully fix the brakes on my car, so I figured I’d take it up to the gas station to put some much needed air in it’s tire and fill my little gas tank for the mower.  The yard was pretty bad, probably a good 3 inches tall in the back yard in spots.  I hadn’t mowed it in so long because it was so dry, and brown for most of the summer.  It got so bad that I finally gave in and started watering it some nights just to get some green back in it.  Well, then after we had a few weeks of MI rain finally it kinda got out of control, and I haven’t had much time to take on the task of mowing.  It was so thick I think I emptied my mower bag like 3 times in the back yard.  Here in Grand Rapids we have yard waste bags (they are like 4ft. tall by 1ft wide), I filled 2 of them to the top by the time I pulled out some of the dying filler weedy type stuff we have in our back yard.  It took me about 2.5 hours to get it all done, and our yard isn’t even that big!  Ah well…..it looks beautiful now.  :)

Oh, and yesterday I tackled 6 loads of laundry.  I also have hopes to continue cleaning our overly dusty house some time this week.  For more tackling check out 5 Minutes for Mom!  What are you tacking today?

Current Mood:I’ve got an Idea! emoticon I’ve got an Idea!

Tackle it TuesdaySo…..now that we are back into a routine (I am SO trying to stick with a routine now that school has started) I want to get back into routinely posting my usual on Tuesday - the housework I plan to tackle for the day!  First off it’s the usual mounds of laundry down in the basement.  I had most of it caught up, but then after our weekend away of camping it’s piled back up to the rafters.  That and we are in need of clean towels…..even the back-up drawer of beach towels is empty!  Tackle number 2 today will be to try to get some swiffer time on our oh so dusty floors upstairs.  Orginally I was going to wait until the remodel on Clare’s room was done to clean the upstairs……especially since it was going to be a mess with putting a new piece of drywall up.  Well…..we’ve waited on a contracter to come look at our roof twice now (last week he was a no show, yesterday he did show…..however without a ladder!)  I am ready to call someone new.  Back to the tackle, I was going to wait to clean…..why clean when you’re going to make a bigger mess, but since our contracter has faultered and our home equity loan came back as a bust (see Brad’s previous post on our utter disgust over the MI economy) I think it’s time to clean up some of the dust bunnies I’ve begun to name as pets.  To see what others are tackling head over here.

Wish List…..

Current Mood:I’ve got an Idea! emoticon I’ve got an Idea!

UPDATED AGAIN 3/19/08:  Last time I updated I think I was bluffing.  We’ve REALLY accomplished some things now!  Check out my post on how much we’ve gotten done.

UPDATE 9/3/07: We’ve actually accomplished some things on the list this weekend! YEAH Check my latest post to find out how things are moving along.

wishI’ve been thinking today….I know it’s dangerous, but it’s something I tend to do when I get left alone for 2 minutes of sheer bliss in not hearing “MOM”. Anwyay, this afternoon it seems as if the clutter has REALLY gotten to me and I am ready to declutter the house. It all started when Clare wanted to play a game of Mancalla, and we were missing 4 beads. We found 2 of them, but in order to find the rest of them I think it’s time to sort through the junk that’s accumalated around here.

So, in an effort to do that I started making a list of all the things I want to accomplish this Fall in my head (and I think we will start this weekend while Clare is gone for a few days to the in-laws). I think the best way to start accomplishing these things is to get them out of my head and on some sort of medium whether it be paper or here for the world to see. My list is below, and as I accomplish the things or add on to it I will post updates.

1. Clean out the office, patch, paint, and move Clare into her new large room.

2. While moving Clare into her room I want to sort through the toys, reorganize, and label bins for her to put things away in an orderly manner. We will also be moving the large toy shelf up in her room, so ALL of her toys will be in one room.

3. Repaint Clare’s old room, and put the office back together in the smaller bedroom. Going through the clutter as we put it back together of course.

4. Clean out ALL the closets. Get rid of clothing we haven’t worn in the past year, weed out Clare’s smaller clothing, and regain some hangers for the clothes we do wear.

5. Clean our bedroom. Reorganize, and get rid of things we no longer use…..or haven’t used.

6. Get a quote to have our bathroom redone. We have a mold problem, and I think it’s gone beyond our skillz in making it into something I don’t mind going into to take a shower every day. I want to retile the floor, put in an exhaust fan (the electrical is hideous upstairs, and needs a professional to fix it), and maybe a new light fixture depending on how much it costs.

7. Start working on getting the basement finished (or the half we want finished). We want to make a TV room down/entertaining area down there.

8. Sell some of the computer crapt my darling hubby keeps bringing home. We have some boxes in the garage that have who know what in them, and they haven’t been touched in over a year and a half. Our basement also is home to some things we need to sell or give away to Good Will so we can make our room happen.

9. Finish working on some of the scrapbooks I started last month. I will need to have last years CO trip printed, and I need to put our wedding/honeymoon pictures in the album. I know, we’ve been married for 6 years and I start an album now…..well I had an empty album, and the pics printed it was just a matter of time before I got to putting them together.

10. Finish the back porch. We have a little back porch off our upstairs, and currently it’s an open space. I think it’d make a nice reading room with a futon for over night guests…..as currently our guest room is the office with an air mattress.

11. Have our roof looked at, to see when or if it needs to be redone. We had some icicles on the back porch last winter, so I have a feeling it needs to be done soon. We also need to redo our garage roof…..but we have to coordinate that with our neighbor as it’s a shared driveway & garage.

12. Oil our hard woods. We’ve lived here for what will be 5 years in January, and have never done anything with the floors. Our floors have been abused regularly though with a rambunctious 5 yr. old and a dog that likes to run.

Tackle it Tuesday

Tackle it TuesdayIt’s Tuesday again around the here at Eastowners, so I am trying to tackle some more house work.  After heading to the fire station with MOMS Club this morning I will be coming home to tackle some laundry.  I’ve been a little laxed in this arena lately, so it’s time to dig back in and get all of it done.  After that I plan on tackling some more dog hair…..our dog sheds like there’s no tomorrow, and leaves our floors super nasty.  Thank God for swiffers though :)

Current Mood:Bored emoticon Bored

Tackle it Tuesday Well, it’s Tuesday again, and now that I don’t have 5 million things going on in preparation for a trip out of town I can actually blog again about tackling things. I think I am going to make this a regular blog for me as it helps motivate me to actually get things done around the house (and everyone knows I can use help in that arena). Today I am going to tackle to dreaded bathrooms! I haven’t cleaned them in, oh…..a few weeks, so they are LONG over due for a good scrubbing. In the future I am also going to try to include some before & after pics of my tackling…..but since today is bathroom day, and even I detest how they look…..I am not including photo’s of my uncleanliness. I know, I know, everyone’s house looks the same at moments becuase as SAHM’s we LIVE in our house and everything gets used so it doesn’t stay clean for long. I however like to live in denial, and not share photo evidence. As usual head over to 5 Minutes For Mom to see what other’s are tackling today!
