Is it the Apocalypse?

Current Mood:Alarmed emoticon Alarmed

apocalypseDoes anyone else feel like this weather we’ve been having this winter is very strange?  It snows, then it rains, then it thunder storms, then it’s 55 degrees, then it’s 4 degrees, things melt, then we get a foot of snow - literally this has all happened here in West Michigan over the past month.  What is up with our weather this year?  I know we all get weather dementia every year and forget (or think we remember really well) what previous years were like, but I would have to say this has been one of the wierder years in my memory.  That and the amount of snow days we’ve had in the past 3 weeks has been ridiculous!  If Clare’s home again next week I think I might begin to go crazy.  It’s actually not been too terrible, she gets to watch hours of tv while I do my thing, and sometimes we go outside together so she can play while I shovel us out.  I’m just wondering if the rest of the world feels as if strange things are happening to our planet as the years go by.  It makes me want to do something drastic to save our planet, but I know small steps really do count - which is why I’m really trying to stop getting paper or plastic bags at the grocery store, and use my cloth bags.  I’m also trying to use more Earth friendly cleaning products and laundry detergents - you probably remember my previous posts about that.  I hope that some of you are helping our planet too, so that we can stop this strange weather and have some normal winters where it stays cold (not that I like the cold, I just like consistancy).

Sleepy Saturday

Current Mood:Tired or Sleepy emoticon Tired or Sleepy

nappingSo, last night I unexpectedly went out with my gal pal Gabby.  She had a rough day at work, and didn’t want to deal with her kids…and I always enjoy an excuse to go out.  So, she picked me up and we went downtown to The Bulls Head.  Our local fav Fancy Thermos was playing.  We’ve become those drunk girls that show up on occassion, and get shout outs during songs saying hello.  We both went out with the thought of only having a few drinks, hanging out, and chatting about what’s been going on since we last hung out.  Things somehow ended up a little crazy around the 4th cosmopolitan for me, and apparently we did 3 shots with the band.  Sam from the band drove us home, and this morning I was still slightly drunk.  Apparently I couldn’t handle my lemon drop shots.  So, I’ve spent the day dozing on the couch and doing much of nothing.  Although I wish I hadn’t had a head ache…I guess that’s what happens when you party hard like I have a tendancy of doing.

114 Posts

Current Mood:Martini Mood emoticon Martini Mood

fireworksSo…apparently I’ve posted 114 times on our little eastowners site.  I have also previously posted on my MySpace page, although I’ve mainly be posting here as most of my readership seems to be here.  My MySpace posts are pretty much nill, but it’s there.  If you MySpace and would like to be friends please add me and I’d add you.  We comment back and forth :)  I also have a Facebook page, but not much is there as I created it on a whim - mainly to keep an eye on my little brother (just wanted to make sure you’re staying out of trouble :) )

Anyway…back to posting here.  Apparently, after you’ve posted 100 times you are supposed to share 100 things about yourself.  I figured I’d give it a shot, seeing as how I have nothing better to do this afternoon and I am procrastinating on doing housework and taking down the xmas tree.  No worries, it’ll be done by the weekend!  Now…onto 100 things about me: Continue reading ‘114 Posts’

What…are we still in Jr. High?

Current Mood:Mischievous emoticon Mischievous

reindeer carI don’t believe I know anyone that actually has this on their car…but if I do, I’m not sorry.  Why do people think that this (pictured left) is funny, cute, or otherwise festive?  In case you didn’t get the memo…it’s not any of those.  It’s rather distracting, retarded, and just plain dumb!  A few years ago I saw a few people with them, now…I see at least 2 every day (and it’s not the same 2).  Maybe I’m a little Scroogish this year…I don’t know.  I think seeing the holiday garb in stores 3 months before the actual holiday came has gotten to me finally.

The Missing

Hi. Glad to see you’re here and reading still. Or maybe you’re new? That’s really good too. I’m kind of a ghost here lately. Not sure exactly why, but perhaps I’m really an introvert. I generally dislike quoting popular culture, but there’s a single line from the movie, Clerks, that continually rings true for me.

Dante Hicks: “You hate people!” Randal Graves: “But I love gatherings; isn’t it ironic?”

So that’s it, then? Why in the hell am I writing this for people if I dislike them, you ask? Well… let me tell you. It’s been a rough week and a half or so and I need someone to pawn my misery off on. You seem like just the kind of person; disconnected, not responsible for the goings on of the eastowners; a casual observer if you will. Like I said, I’m glad you’re here.

“So… what happened?”

I’m not sure I should tell you, now that it seems that you care. Hopefully you’re just being pleasant; I don’t want any emotional involvement here. Since you’re prying and I have nothing better to do, I guess I’ll tell you.

I lost my wedding band in the goddamned Michigan snow.

Yep. Great, huh? The thing simply disappeared. Thus far, it has defied frantic searching and even multiple sweeps of the best metal detector that cost me nothing. I figure only a priceless metal detector will detect a priceless bauble. I apparently figure wrong.

“So, what’s the story?”

You’re gonna get on my nerves if I feel like you’re care too much and I’m gonna tell you to shove off. But since ya asked, I guess I’ll tell. Like I said; nothing much better to do.
I had to go to a conference in Kalamazoo with my boss. His “traveling vehicle” was unavailable the day of the conference so he asked me to drive. I asked Char and she ok’d use of the Audi. Only problem is that the driver’s side windshield wiper on my car, which she would be using, doesn’t work. It was supposed to rain.

I went out to cobble the mechanism back together (I really need to just go to Weller and get a new/used one) , got about halfway through the job and slipped and fell flat on my back in the snow. When I got up, the ring was gone.

It’s been really loose for a while, so I probably shouldn’t have been wearing it. I’m a little pissed at myself for continuing to wear it despite it’s size issue. We took it to the jeweler to ask about sizing and they said that they couldn’t really size it without cutting it and making it ugly (it had a braid in the middle that would be impossible to match up after cutting).

Char helped me search, but it didn’t show up. I borrowed a metal detector from a friend. The ring still hasn’t shown. I’m going to do a couple more sweeps with the sensitivity turned way down and see if anything pops up, but I’m not too optimistic.

So that’s it. Pile the usual crap from work on top of it and I’m not exactly in the greatest of moods.

Well… thanks for listening. Hope you made it to the end and your past weeks have been less “exciting” than mine.

Crazy Things to Buy

Current Mood:Sickly emoticon Sickly

credit card holderSo…the other morning Brad was flipping through channels, and he saw this silly credit card holder pictured to the left.  It also has a money clip on it!  The thing about it is….it looks like it’s bigger than any wallet a man would carry in his back pocket.  Apparently you can load 6 credit cards in it, and with a push of a button they slide out.  What I want to know is, what happens when you accidently slide one of those buttons in your pockets….do you have credit cards flying out of your pocket?  What crazy invention will someone come up with next that I’ll see on tv!?!?!

Random 7 Meme

Current Mood:Flirtatious emoticon Flirtatious

tagOkay….so I’ve been tagged by my pal Adventure Mom to do a Meme about me.  Since I don’t ever have a problem talking about myself I figured why not!

The meme: 7 random facts about me

The rules:  Link to your tagger and post these rules.  Share 7 facts about yourself: some random, some weird.  Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).  Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

1. I was in Color Guard for 2 years in High School during marching season (yes, I was a flag twirler - and I loved it).

2. When I was younger I wanted to be a Veternarian - I think it had something to do with how active I was in 4-H with my rabbits.

3. I wanted to have 3 kids when I was younger - now I think we’ll just stick with the 1 we have…she’s enough trouble to keep me from staying sane most days.

4. I wanted to have a horse when I was a kid - my parents wouldn’t let me despite the fact that we lived on a farm.  I think they knew I’d loose interest and try to pawn the care of it off on them.  It’s what I did with the rabbits.

5. After graduating High School I went with the Michigan Lions All-State Band to Korea, China, and Hawaii for about 2 and a half weeks to the International Lions Convention in 1995.  It was the trip of a life time, and I’ve seen some sites that are amazing!

6. During my years at Western MI University I became known as Charma - mostly because on one boring night my friend Beeko took me out dressed rather slutty provocatively and we took pictures around town.  It was lots of fun to do, and it helped me come out of my shell even more.  No, I wasn’t drunk during the photo shoot…it was just something funny to do - we even harassed some security guards at Meijer!

7. I wore green chuck taylor tennis shoes to get married in 6 and a half years ago.  The whole wedding party did in fact.  Brad wanted to wear Bozo shoes….I said no, so this ended up being our comprimise.  I still have them in the closet, and on occasion wear them.  It’s kinda funny to put them on and say that I’m wearing my wedding shoes.

All right, tag! the following people are it…

Good Idea Momma

And anybody else that would like to participate - since I can’t think of anyone else right now!

The Force

Current Mood:Tired or Sleepy emoticon Tired or Sleepy

lego star warsOne of Clare’s latest obsessions is Lego Star Wars.  She even refers to Darth Vador as her sweetie!  Yes….that’s our child.  It all started about 6 months ago or so when Brad bought a copy for the Playstation, then he bought Lego Star Wars II for the Game Cube…..and now they play it in HD off of our media computer that’s hooked up to the tv in the living room.  She asks to play it EVERY night after dinner with him.  I’ve tried playing with her, but she tends to wander and it’s very hard not to get frustrated with her not following the leader.  I have to laugh though, as today I was sitting out at the dining room table eating lunch when I hear Brad say “Clare….DON’T USE THE FORCE ON ME!”  One of her favorite things to do is “Whack daddy’s head off with the ax or light sabor” in the game.  Usually I try not to promote violence, but who can pass up giggling at your 5 year old girly girl that wears skirts & dresses every day she can, that likes to beat up on her cartoon dad in a game.  I think it’s her way of getting back at him for picking on her in real life.

The flying Dutch Man

Current Mood:Sad emoticon Sad

dutch and shelby   clare and dutch2   clare and dutch   dutch

Well, he really isn’t flying…although he may be tonight in my dreams.  Dutch was a lone pup I found when I was about a senior in high school from our dog Brandy.  Yes, she had 1 puppy…only 1, so we knew that he was special.  He was so pudgy and round as a pup, and oh so lovable you wanted to just smother him with hugs and kisses.  I am saddened this evening to find out that he is no longer on this Earth, and has been sent to doggy heaven in the sky to be with his mom Brandy.  My mom called this afternoon to let me know that he had to be put down.  He was old, and lived a long life as a hunting dog, family dog, protector, and best of all a loveable dog.  I want to say that he was around 13 years old, almost 14 as his birthday would have been this month.

Dutch was special to me because I found him.  I had gotten home from school that day, and I went to let Brandy out of her pen (as we kept her as an outdoor dog).  She got to the one corner of the house and let out a yelp, running back to her pen.  I went to find out what was going on, and opened the roof to her coup (aka the house she slept in) to find her nursing one single little pup.  He was so cute, and my mom named him Dutch, as that’s what her dad called her when she was younger.  He was so dependent on his momma, she carried him around in her mouth everywhere, and he refused to walk.  I remember sitting around the Christmas tree forcing him to walk, while we held down his mom Brandy.  Soon enough we made them both house dogs.  About a few years later Brandy was so old (16 years old), and her hips had fallen apart so we put her down.  I remember my dad heating up the ground to burry her on the farm where we grew up.

Dutch was always there through fun and sad.  He would lay on the living room floor and I (or my brother’s) would fall asleep on him using him as a fluffy pillow.  He always listened to me, even though I’m sure he had no clue what I was saying.  Soon enough I went away to college and my parents adopted another dog, Shelby, into their house.  I think she was a replacement for their oldest that flew the nest….but I’m sure they’d protest and say otherwise.  I’d go home and there’d they’d always be….the dynamic duo Dutch & Shelby.

After Brad & I married, and had Clare we’d go back to my parent’s place…and they were always there eager to great us as we pulled into the drive way, the dynamic duo that is.  Clare too kinda grew up with Dutch, and will always remember him as the dog she could ride as a toddler.  Yes, he was that type of dog.  Kind, wise, snuggly, and oh so smart.  I will miss him, and I know my parents will miss him too as I think he was secretly the 4th child.  As I finish this I leave you with some pictures of my “Bufalumps”, it’s what I called him - don’t know where it came from, but it suited him.  I will miss seeing him when I go home in a few weeks for Thanksgiving, but I know he is in a better place now with no pain, no worries of dealing with is deafness, and his lumps are all gone now.  I hope that my parent’s are healing too from their grief in missing him, as he was truely one of the best dogs anyone could have known.  Not that my dog isn’t great….but we all know Moonshadow isn’t the brightest crayon in the box, as she’s still got A LOT of pup still left in her.  I can only hope that she will become as great of a dog as he was….she’s on her way there, she just needs a few more years.
