I’ve always secretly loved fashion, even though I’m not terribly fashionable myself. I blame growing up in the country - sorry Mom & Dad. My other thing is that even though I love fashion and craftiness - I don’t have a single crafty bone in my body. I can try, excedingly hard to make something that I saw in a cute magazine article, and yet it never comes out anything like it. So, alas I live my secret obsession for fashion and craftiness by watching television shows like Bravo’s Project Runway. Now even though I’m not one for reality television, I love shows like this that challenge people to make their craft better. I was a little saddened to see Chris leave the show when I watched my DVRed episode last night. He was so funny, and edgey - and Rami was just a little too cocky for my taste. My favorite though has to be Christian though, he’s so FIERCE! So, do any of you have any new obsessions to share in the tv world? I can’t wait for the writers to actually have their work come out after being on strike for so long. Then again, I’m way too much of a TV junkie than I need to be.
I am so over TV right now. I am actually reading and avoiding even turning it on cause I will just end up watching something stupid. American Idol, Survivor and Lost are about all I am watching.

Okay, I do have an obsession as of late. I was flipping through the channel a few months ago and came upon a show called “Clean House” which is on the Style channel. For some reason I love that show. I am even brave enough to say I DVR it so when I am bored I can watch it. My house would never be as messy as the ones on tv, but it’s fun watching those people have to give up all thier stuff.
But other than that, I have been trying to ween myself off the television more these days (meaning less sports). But I still refuse to miss an episode of American Idol.

After the writer’s strike, I’ve found myself (once again) less-than-enthralled with television. While there are a few shows that I’m big enough to admit to liking (My Name is Earl, The Simpsons, a cartoon on CN called “Chowder”, which is brilliant), there are a whole lot of other things that I endure simply to spend time with my lovely wife.
This is one of those shows. That’s not to say I don’t have an opinion about the folks on the show, though. The heavy-set dude is really cool and at the end they showed some of his costume work; absolute brilliance. I suppose if I have to watch people parading around, this is the sort of thing I don’t mind seeing. I certainly don’t dig the whole fashion/evening-gown/catwalk crap. It’s just not my thing I guess.
Hey Chris– I don’t understand the pull of American Idol. Perhaps you can explain it to me? Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a musician, but I just can’t stand to watch them disqualify folks who have some mighty pipes and move ahead people who have sometimes mediocre pipes and “the looks”.
I get VERY annoyed at the audacity of the music industry in relation to this show. They are basically highlighting the fact that they are so removed from artist development that if you don’t show up fully developed, you might as well quit. It’s crap, and in my opinion the very reason that people would rather pirate music than pay for it. It’s really hard to assign value to something that they themselves don’t value enough to put money into.

American Idol is exactly what the title says - the American watchers get to vote who moves on, and it’s not neccessarily the judges. So, American’s are telling the music industry what they want in essence by voting for those that have less than “mighty pipes”. I think this is why we like most of the UK pop chart.

I don’t know. I guess I watch it because I have nothing better to do on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. It’s good entertainment while grading math papers. I do agree with a lot of what you say. However, there has been two big successes out of the last six seasons. It pisses me off when people get voted off with good voices. America definately doesn’t always have the best judge of talent. Like Simon says, It’s a singing competition. Two years ago McPhee had a better voice but Taylor Hicks won because he was a better entertainer. That’s what I can’t stand about the music industry. Instead of finding real talent the music industry would rather find all the popular teenie boppers and make millions of of the kids. All the Cyrus’s, Duff’s, and all other teeny boppers make me sick to my stomach. They can’t sing worth a sh#$ but all it takes is a little technology. It’s all about the money now, not quality. However, I think the internet will keep improving that downside over the years to come.
