Long Weekend

On Friday morning (6/30) I got the call, Grandma had passed in the night. I was never really close with my grandma, but apparently she was really proud of me. I never understood why….I did graduate from college, but I’m a stay at home mom living day to day doing things to keep me busy. But, after talking to my dad….he said, “Look at what you’ve done, in comparison to some of my cousins.” I’ve traveled the world, graduated with my degree in Elementary Education, got married, had Clare, and raised her to be as smart as she can be. I guess when I think about it, my life hasn’t been that bad, and I have done some pretty interesting things. With the death of my Grandma it’s also brought back some memories of me and my brothers at her house when we were younger. We used to spend the night with her, watch tv, and the next day we’d go into town on the bus to go down town for some lunch, and usually go to the movies. Grandma tried really hard to be there for us. So, on Saturday this past weekend we made the trek home for the funeral. Larry flew back in Saturday night, as he was one of the paw bears with the rest of the grandsons. Sunday was visitation, followed by the rosary on Sunday night….and yes, I did do the prayer thing with my family. Even though I don’t practice Catholisim….I know that my Grandma would have wanted me to do it. We got back to my parents house really late, and crashed in bed. On Monday we went to the church, did a full church service…..I thought the priest was going to die on the spot. Or burn the place down when he used the big Easter Candle for support on his way back up the stairs! My mom was trying not to giggle too loudly with the hymnal over her face. Then we went to the cemetary for a quick thing, and we went to the burial plot to see grandma be buried next to my grandpa Boman. Once again the priest coughed his way through the prayers at the cemetary. It was kinda funny, in spite of why we were there. Then it was back to the church for the luncheon, and back to my parents for some rest time for Clare. She was super grouchy! I did the funeral by myself, while Clare hung out with Brad. We thought it was best that she not have to deal with that at such a young age. Sunday night we had 2 of my aunts out with their kids, and my cousin’s kids out for dinner. We brought our fireworks from last year, and shot them off. The kids thought that was lots of fun! Then Brad, Larry, & Frank did some bottle rockets….they got really retarted and started throwing them by hand. We had sparklers, and all sorts of fun for the kids. Clare was skeptical of course, but my cousin’s kids had fun and finally got Clare into it. I sat on the porch swing and rocked my cousin’s baby to sleep. NO….I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER ONE!!!! I was just renting for the evening! And it gave my cousin some time to relax for a bit while her older 2 roasting marshmallows. It was a good night, and I’m really glad we remembered to bring the fireworks & Sparklers this weekend! Then we came home on the 4th. We didn’t make it down to the fireworks, as Clare was very tired from her busy weekend and late night fun. But there’s always next year! Yesterday Brad suprised Clare by taking her to go see “Cars”, and I was able to stay at home and get some things done as well as relax for a bit. Then we had the sitter while we went to get my car fixed. They had to replace the sensor that was broken when they replaced the struts a few weeks ago. We also had them find out why the check engine light was on, as it had come on over the weekend. That took most of the afternoon. Last night we made dinner, and I sorted through the bills to find out how much money we’ll have to go on vacation. These 3 unexpected trips to the other side of the state have kinda thrown us….but it was worth it to see my grandma. It just kinda sucks though, because we won’t be able to do as much with gas prices being so high. Oh well, I guess that’s how it goes.
